Villas in Tuscany

I wonder if anyone can tell me if it would be worth staying at a Villa in Tuscany if I will be there only 1 or 2 nights (or if they are even available for such a short time)? If so, any recommendations on a less expensive but clean and comfy villa? We will be traveling to Europe mid May this year.

Thanks

Traci

Well, yes, it would be worth staying in one - if you have a car. Most agriturismos are some distance from a train or bus. What area in Tuscany are you thinking about. Folks here have lots of recommendations, but they need to know where you want to go and what you want to see. And if you'll have a car.

You can find places to stay for 1 or 2 nights out in the countryside-don't know if they officially qualify as Villa's... We stayed at Casa Nova in Greve in Chianti. We had an apartment (there were 4 of us) and you needed to stay for at least 3 nights, but they offered rooms for one and two night stays. Here is a web site for them : http://www.greve-in-chianti.com/casanova.htm You can also try greve-in-chianti.com for other lodging choices. We enjoyed Greve- it is a medium size village with shopping, restaurants, easy buses to Florence or Siena and a wonderful Saturday market. We loved our time out in the countryside.

Thanks for that info. However, we will not have a car and will be traveling by train only. We would only have about 2 nights max to stay in the Tuscany region... would you still think it wise to plan on staying in a villa?

What do you mean by a "villa"? By my concept, you're asking about a country estate, which by definition means you'll need a car. Few expansive residential properties lie close to railroad stations.

Reserve a room in Florence and enjoy the city. Buon Viaggo.

Most agriturismo and villas for rent are outside the main cities. With only 2 days to explore Tuscany and no car I'd forget about it.

Okay, we will forget the Villa idea. We are planning to take a train from Cinque Terre to Pisa to some town in Tuscany for 2 nights. Would you recommend staying in Siena or is there another town w/ in Tuscany that would be more highly recommended. I love wine (but don't know much about it) and we love to eat (not fine dining or anything).

Siena is good; great. Taking the train in and out is a bit involved. Lucca is another great place to spend time.

Which would be easier to get in and out of Siena or Lucca? Also, would it be better to take a bus or something? Coming from Cinque Terre, what would be the best way to get into Siena or Lucca? And then what would be the best way to leave on our way to Rome?
