Nearest airport to Padua is Venice. When I did the tour I flew from Vancouver to Venice with a stopover in London to visit friends. Padua is only 30 minutes by train from Venice and I also took the chance to stopover in Venice for a few days. Any flight from the west coast to Venice is likely going to involve a stopover at either LHR or Frankfurt. Or fly to Milan and take the train to Padua.
I, also, vote for time ahead in Venice if you have the days available! And I wished I had spent an extra night in Padua before the tour started as there were things I did not get to there.
This is a very fun tour!
Seattle to Newark, NJ to Venice Italy. You take the bus from VCE to Padua.
Also consider the new Alaska flight nonstop from Seattle to Rome, followed by trains.
If you fly into Venice, there's a bus from the airport to the Padua train station. The bus is easy to find in the airport parking lot, and you can avoid going into Venice if you don't plan to spend time there.
If will be confirmed the departure from Padua and finish in Modena, Bologna airport could make sense because is one hour far from both locations.
Can you add a couple days pre tour for time in Venice? It’ll help with jet lag. When I took the tour a couple years ago, I visited Venice before taking the train to Padua the morning the tour started.
Afterwards I trained to Florence and then Rome. United flights were open jaw. PHX to VCE, FCO to PHX.
I fly Delta as my preference. From SeaTac we flew to Amsterdam to Venice. Then you can take the train from Venice if you would like to add a few days there before the tour begins, or take the bus from the Venice airport to Padova for a couple of days pre-tour. Or you could take the train a little farther west to stay in Verona - lovely city, for a few days pre-tour.
I also vote with Jean on the routing from Seattle. Honestly, Newark might work for folks flying from the East Coast but no reason at all to change planes in the US for this one. There are multiple flights per day from AMS to Venice on KLM which is a Delta Sky partner.
Agreed, no reason to stop over in the US on this route to any city in Northern Italy. It adds hours to the trip rather than flying over Canada, and coming back you have to pick up your suitcase after going through immigration and RE-check it onto connecting flight. PS, Suggest you use Google Flights with above suggestions on route via Venice, etc. It will show you a wide variety of options.
MANY thanks fellow Explorers!
This will be our 4th RS tour. Our pattern is to book in 2-3 pre-tour days. Will consider the new AS flt into Rome, then to Bologna, then to Pedua.
Happy travels!
