Can someone who took a suitcase and a carry on this trip tell me about your experiences?
One of my reservations about going with Rick Steve’s tour is their emphasis on only bringing a carry on. I can’t travel that way and need a suitcase as well.

Thanks

You can bring whatever you need. There will be at least one or two folks with bigger than carry on bags. But it’s true that you must be able and prepared to schlep your own bags to the bus, to the room including hotels that may not have elevators. It is a terrific tour, you will love it!

Took this trip 2 years ago, wonderful trip! To answer your question, you can bring anything you're willing to carry or roll. Most people on this and other RS trips I have taken have a bag larger than carry-on size. But you have to handle your bag(s) yourself, which may include taking them up a flight or two of stairs.

Agree with the other posters. The buses park outside the city center, and you must be able to haul our own bags several blocks to the hotel. and up to your room. No one will help you. We took a carry-on and a backpack (small day pack size). I don't know your special needs, but that was plenty for us.

This was our favorite RS tour.

There's nothing wrong with using a suitcase larger than a carryon if you can get it up and down flights of stairs. Bringing a personal item, carryon, and another larger suitcase would be too much to handle, in my opinion. At Orvieto we had to pull our luggage to an elevator, and then pull it uphill to get to the top of the hill before walking a few more blocks before getting to the hotel.
