We're planning to visit the Villa in October, 2011. It seems the visiting hours keep changing, as do the number of rooms open. Has anyone been recently and could let me know what the current visiting hours are?
I will also be in Sicily in October. Have been watching this topic on the TripAdvisor Sicily (or Italy) forum. Vagabonda there is full of awesome info on anything Sicily. That said, I think the most recent question/response on the Villa is that you should probably re-check immediately prior to your departure. The hours and rooms open/closed are in a constant state of flux from month to month, and so far October has not been predicted or announced.
Mary, I was at Villa Romana in July and many rooms were open. The rooms are basically surrounded by sheds to protect them, and there are walkways between the rooms (some catwalks as well). They are constantly uncovering new works, so you will probably have a chance to see restorations in progress. I'm planning to go back again next summer, just to see what's new. If you have time and a car, Morgantina is only a few kilometers away and worth a visit if you love archeology.
