Villa Belvedere - Taormina?

Hello,

Planning a visit to Taormina for my family next July, and have been deciding among several hotels. I think we have settled on Villa Belvedere. With two teenage daughters, a pool is a must, so that did eliminate some other lovely properties.

So my question is for past guests of the hotel.... when you were deciding between two hotels, did the Belvedere turn out to be the right choice for you, and why? Would you make the same decision again?

I'm not looking for facts about where the hotel is located, etc., just personal opinions on what made you choose this hotel over the others in this category.

Thank you...

We found the rooms at the Belvedere to be a bit small and some of them on the road too loud. We prefer the Villa Paradiso, which has a beautiful pool at the beach with a shaded and lovely lounging area, a place to eat lunch or snack and transportation there and back. It is also in a better location to get to the center of the town, as the Belvedere is on a busy road leading out of the town.

Well, having read your question again, I see that I wasn't to put in the fact about the hotel's location, but this is one of the main reasons I would not choose it again, plus the noise in the room we were in. It was just not the hotel for our family.

We just stayed at the Villa Belvedere a couple of weeks ago as part of a tour. We were lucky to be assigned a junior suite which was more than adequate with a kitchen, a large sitting area and several bathrooms. Breakfasts were typical for Italy in a nice dining room. Our room also had a nice patio area that was semi-private. The hotel is maintained well and clean. Several of our traveling companions did complain about the size of their rooms. It really is not that far from the central part of town (about a 5 minute walk). I heard no complaints about road noise from our group. Staff was helpful.

Thank You.... I really appreciate the opinions! (I only wrote that about the location because sometimes people just reiterate what the guidebooks already tell you.)

For what it's worth, in 2010 we stayed at the Hotel Villa Schuler in Taormina. Besides the rooms of this inn being larger than most, Hotel Villa Schuler is more or less on the same level as Corso Umberto, the main drag in Taormina. Believe me, you will be traversing enough hills as it is - when you have to nip back to the room for something you've forgotten, it's nice that it's close by. Owner Gerhard Schuler is wonderful. (As you may or may not know, there is a decided German presence in Taormina. Most restaurant menus are in English/Italian/German, even with some Sicilian spins on German dishes like sweet & sour meatballs.)
