Vietri Su Mare Restaurants & Activities

We plan to stay in Vietri Su Mare late summer. My husband has food restrictions so I was hoping to email restaurants in advance to see if they can accommodate him. Are there recommendations for restaurants in this town and associated websites? I am having a hard time finding websites for some of them. Also, are there activities right there in the town we should consider? Or, nearby? We do have a car. We plan to visit AC via boat, not car.

The lack of working websites is sadly typical of Italy and especially southern Italy.

The good news is that despite the reputation stateside Italian restaurants generally have well marked menus for allergies and sensitivities - gluten, nuts, vegetarian, vegan - and in general Italian waiters are extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients and cooking processes.

If your husband has a serious allergy I would print a card with good Italian translation laying out his requirements.
If it is more in the sensitivities range I would let the waiter know and things like gluten free options "senza glutine" are widely available for pasta and pizza. I hope he doesn't have a seafood/shellfish allergy because Italians eat very local so coastal dining will be largely seafood based.

But I will say that dining in Salerno there was often a "sea based" and a "land based" menu since so much of Campania is land based. The tomato sauces in this area are unbelievably good based on the tomatoes from the volcano soil BTW and not to be overlooked.

Good luck,

Thank you so much for this help. Do you know if there is a service in this forum for translation of a card as you suggest?

Not on the forum itself but the topic of food and allergies comes up often as you would expect.

I would suggest using the search bar and searching on terms like "allergy" and "allergies" to find out what advice is here on the site as well as previous topic threads on the forum. A quick search of the previous threads turned up this:

But there are other posts to explore as well. As always things posted are people's opinions and experiences so it's often best to get input from multiple sources on important topics.

I didn't notice before that this was your first post, welcome to the forum!

I don't know your husband's dietary limitations, but I can tell you that that best restaurants on the Amalfi Coast are concentrated in Cetara, which is the next town N of Vietri. If you have a car, it's an easy drive to Cetara.
Last time I was on the Amalfi Coast (2024) I stayed in Vietri; we took a taxi to Cetara to have dinner at Acquapazza; it's my favorite but there are several other restaurants in Cetara that are excellent. I' sorry I can't help with eating in Vietri itself, though.

At which hotel in Vietri will you be staying?

Thank you for all this help! We are staying at an apartment, so not a hotel. We found it through booking.com. We do have a car so looking at restaurants in Cetara is a very helpful suggestion. And a previous post suggested to not overlook the amazing tomato sauce, which made my husband very glad to hear!

This also may be blasphemous to lovers of the AC but you might also look into going into Salerno to explore restaurants. The area of downtown Salerno with the most restaurants is about 10 minutes from VSM by car and is manageable by bus. The area from Piazza Sedile di Portanova on Corso Vittorio Emanuele is full of little wine bars, bars, cafes and restaurants to explore along all the streets.
We spent 8 nights in Salerno and never ran out of places to try while we were there.

Just a thought,

I have a friend that is allergic to gluten, dairy, and corn (and possibly soy?) and she said that all of the restaurants in Italy were WAY more accommodating than anything in the US when she went last year. So there is hope! I would do as already shared, have a card printed to say the restrictions, even knowing the words is a bonus and the restaurants will be able to help.

YAY Salerno! There are a ton of great ones, and very easy to get to from Vietri! Though I bet you will get very familiar with the parking lots on the north end of town after like a 5 min drive down the hill :)
