I know Vietri is produced in Vietri, Italy. Do they have an actual storefront there and do they offer factory direct prices and or seconds?
Thank you.
Joyce, I believe your initial statement is not correct. The company Vietri was founded by three American women who visited Positano in 1983 and admired the local ceramics. They learned it was made in nearby Vietri al Mar and went there and bought some pieces. Back home their friends liked the ceramics and wanted some too, so the women started their business of importing Italian ceramics and it expanded from there. They named their company Vietri as a tribute to the town, but it is based in North Carolina, where they do have an outlet store. You can find more at the web site www.vietri.com. They specialize in handmade Italian ceramics, but I don't know if any of their product is actually still made in Vietri al Mare. I know I have seen Vietri dishes labelled handmade in Umbria, Tuscany and Lecce. Vietri al Mare is still a ceramics town, with many ceramics workshops and stores. It is very near Salerno at the east end of the Amalfi Coast. I have not been there yet, but am thinking of making a short visit as part of a trip to Salerno and Paestum in May.
