Hi there! We will be traveling to southern Italy and I have two questions: 1. While we are in Vieste we would like to do some sort of boat tour. Does anyone have any guides or companies that they would recommend? 2. While in Puglia we would love to go to a farm where they make burrata to do a tour and tasting. Has anyone does this? What would you recommend. We are big foodies and would like to do some off the beaten path activities so if you have any other advice we are all ears!
I might be able to help you wifi you let me know where you are staying after Vieste.
The center of production for burrata is around Andria but you can find makers in other areas as well.
I've never taken a tour, but have visited many cheesemakers in southern Italy.
Questions:
Do you specifically want a tour, or are you ok with going on your own?
Do you need to go to a farm (to see the animals?) or would you be ok with watching the cheesemaking at the kitchen/workshop where it's made? (cheesemakers often buy the milk from a. farm but make the cheese in their own place)
Do you need English translation or are you ok with watching the process and taking the chance that the descriptions of the process would be in Italian with, perhaps, minimal English?
I'm pretty good on recommendations for restaurants in some areas of Puglia; we've covered a lot of the region and our trips are focused on restaurants, markets, and shopping for food. but I need to know where you all stay and how far you are willing to drive to a restaurant.
There is a wonderful, off-the-beaten path farm restaurant not far from Vieste; you can see the goats and other animals and the food (focus on meat, since it's inland) is stupendous! But you need to be willing to drive from Vieste, or take a taxi....it might be confusing in the dark...(we took a taxi and when he did not show up to collect us after dinner, we caught a ride with a couple from the North, who drove us back to our hotel!!)
