Another language tip:

Check your local public library to see if they have the Pimsleur language CDs available for loan.
I have found them to be exceptionally useful. I listen to them during my morning and evening commute for months leading up to a trip. But even just a few days exposure would be very helpful for a beginner.

Thanks for sharing the link to the RS language class. I didn’t know about these being available online. I listened to most of the Italian one, and it’s especially good for practicing pronunciation.

There’s a free podcast called Coffee Break Italian that teaches basic Italian language skills in fifteen minute increments. It’s well done and entertaining. Also teaches Spanish, French and German in coffee break format.

Some libraries also subscribe to an online resource called Mango Languages. Check your public library's website or ask the reference librarian. So with your library card, and through your library's website, you can then access Mango easily on any computer or even on your phone with an app. There's something like 60+ languages. And the interface is pretty nice, too.
