Vicenza, yea or nay

I'm considering 1 or 2 nights in Vicenza between stays in Bologna and in Venice in mid-October. Advice and opinions welcome.

Also, I see that I'd change trains in Verona. Does anyone know if there is still luggage storage at the train station? I would prefer to leave my suitcase there and continue with only a backpack for 1-2 nights.

Hi Chani, we went to Vicenza as a day trip from Verona and would absolutely recommend it. The theater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s amazing. Gives you “new perspective”

I agree with Tammy, the theatre was amazing. I don’t want to say too much cause you need to see it and figure it out.
But, there really isn’t anything else to do there that I remember. We just went for the day from Padua.

We did a day trip from Padua that was quite pleasant. The theater was the main memory other than strolling through town..:always a rewarding experience in Italy..:and a horsemeat meatball on one of the lovely piazze. Thankfully it tasted more like breadcrumb than Mr Ed.( one and done). There are several Palladio sites in or near Vicenza. If you end in Venice you might consider the Brenta river tour that takes in several Palladio villas. I believe it runs from Padua to Venice. A trip on the right train between Padua and Vicenza is about 30 thirty minutes as I recall. Safe travels

Another vote for the theatre there! Totally worth the visit. We did a couple of the villas there too.

Having spent time in Verona and Vicenza, my suggestion is to consider staying in Verona (if you've not been there) and going to Vicenza as a day trip. Verona has, in my opinion, much more to offer. But, at any rate, Vicenza is worth at least a full day

Actually I’d suggest Verona as well but I didn’t want to stir the pot. A day in Vicenza was nice but I think a day could be enough. The river tour intrigued me but we arrived in the region from Venice and did not want to return. But it’s all Italy and it’s all beautiful. We also enjoyed a few days in Padua. Good luck. So many choices.

I agree with the others: Vicenza is a worth a visit, but there's less to see there than in Padua and Verona.

Hi Chani, my husband & I stayed in Vicenza overnight. We saw the main sites and walked out to the Villa La Rotonda on a nice paved path, also. The front cover of that trip’s photo album is of one of the historical buildings in the main piazza - striking in the moonlight! My husband took that photo after we finished a nice meal in the piazza.

I do agree with the other comments. I’ve stayed in Verona three times and also in Padova for five nights and would rate both of them much higher than Vicenza. If you’re looking at a place between Venice & Bologna, I also like Ferrara a lot, and it’s right on the train line between the two cities, so no worries about your suitcase.. If you haven’t seen the gorgeous mosaics at Ravenna, there’s a direct train from Ferrara to Ravenna for a day trip.

Thank you all for sharing your impressions. It has helped me make my decision not to stay overnight. I have spent 3-4 days each in Verona and Padua on previous visits. Those 2 "free" nights in my itinerary will be spent in Salerno and Bologna. One less hotel change is usually a good choice.

Glad that was an easy decision for you! Salerno & Bologna for the win! : )

I am 3 weeks into my Italy trip and in Florence at the moment. I will be heading to Vicenza for five days and every day is chaka block filled. I would give Vicenza another look.

I love, love, love Bologna! I found absolutely nothing of interest in Solarno and very glad to have just spent a day there transiting.
