Vicenza - Reasonable to walk to Palladio's Villas?

While staying in Verona we plan a day trip to Vicenza by train in early October. It seems that we can walk from the train to see Palladio's La Rotunda and also the Villa Valmarana ai Nani. I hope to buy tickets in advance and I know the Villa Rotunda is not always open. There also appears to be a bus that we could take. Just wondering if anyone has done this? Any tips/comments for us? Or does anyone recommend a guide for the day? We have been there before but have never seen the villas so they are a priority and the rest of the day we will spend exploring Vicenza's other sites. We could go on either a Saturday or a Sunday which seems to improve our chances of the villas being open.

Thanks to all!

I have visited both by bus without issues about 6 years ago. I am fairly certain it was a bit far to walk from the historic centre of Vicenza, otherwise I would have walked rather than take the bus.

It's about a mile and a half from the train station to La Rotunda, and the route isn't particularly pedestrian friendly.
I'd probably spring for a taxi.

I stayed at a B&B in Vicenza near the Spar market, not too far away from La Rotunda, and a hike from the station. It looks close, it is close, but for me it was a bit too much of a hike on foot. I was glad I had my car. There are certainly buses. Be sure to check opening times and bus times.
