I'm interested in visiting these areas on my trip to shop for jewelry, has anyone been? Would you recommend one city over the other, for more selection, better pricing, etc? Arezzo seems like it will be a pretty town to visit anyway, and I'll be doubly happy with some nice jewelry.
I was in Arezzo today for lunch. Luckily stores were closed at lunchtime, so my wife didn’t have a chance to make me poorer (but we are here in Tuscany for a couple more more weeks, with plenty of relatives to visit in Arezzo, so I’m not safe yet).
A high school friend of mine is a jewelry sales rep and regularly travels to both (he’s based in Florence) as he represents companies from both towns. I would choose based on your overall itinerary. Arezzo is just 40 min from Florence by train or car, Vicenza is also equally close to Venice, so depending on where your trip takes you, you should make that choice. Both towns also have a lot to offer in terms of historic sights and architecture. Personally I think that should take priority over shopping. All other things being equal, prices shouldn’t differ much either.
I’ve stayed in both Vicenza & Arezzo, and of the two, I thought Arezzo was more interesting. I haven’t shopped for jewelry during my trips, so I can’t help you in that department, but there is an antique market the first Sunday of the month in Arezzo in case you’re looking for any antique styles.
Thank you both for your replies, we won't be in Venice as long as Florence, so my gut instinct was to just go to Arezzo, but depending on what we do in Venice, Vicenza is a possibility. Roberto, if your friend can recommend some stores, that would be great
