Viator Pompeii Tour

The day tour to Pompeii sounds interesting. Has anyone taken this? Can you book a day or two in advance? They want you to book a week or more in advance. But then what if it rains? I feel more comfortable getting a near forcast of the travel day.

Viator is a tour consolidator and you pay an additional fee for that. As said, going to Pompeii from Rome is really easy. If you want to you can hire a guide on site to tour the ruins. This will save you a ton of money and allow you to stay as long or as little at the ruins as you wish. If interested in exact directions just let me know. Donna

Check out this link for some comments: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k4692484-l34960768-Pompeii_Amalfi_Coast_Day_Tour_for_Small_Groups-Rome_Lazio.html#34960768 It is quite easy to do it yourself, either with the audio guide or guidebook or hire a guide at the entrance to the site. If you are doing the Viator tour beginning in Rome, for example, you will spend half of your day in a motor coach, driving back and forth. There are high speed trains from Rome to Naples and from Naples to Pompeii is about 30 minutes on the local train. It certainly is a personal choice but I wouldn't have the patience for 3+ hours in a motorcoach, each way.
