Via di Francesco Trekking

Has anyone walked the Via di Francesco from Assisi to Spoleto? Or any other segment? It's a multi-day hike similar to the famous, often crowded Camino de Santiago in Spain.

My husband and I are looking for a group-walk organization/guide service OR a company that offers self-guided assistance for summer 2024. Unfortunately for us, it's impossible to travel between September and June, so one of the most well-known options (led by a gentleman named Sandy Brown) don't work for our schedule.

TIA for any advice.

There may be a good reason the guiding companies do not offer that trek in July/August—-too much heat. I see my favorite (HF Holidays) offers this (guided, in a group) in May and September, but not mid-summer.

You can try the well-regarded self-guiding companies, but I checked Mac’s Adventures and they seem to take a different route—-at least I do not see Assisi to Spoleto among the segments they offer.

Thanks for the pointer to Mac Adventures, Lola. I found some options that may work.

We wish we could go in Spring or Fall, but I work full time during the school year. We survived Naples in July once, so we're crossing our fingers we can handle Tuscany & Umbria in summer. :)

Hello,
We are on our way home from walking the Arrone-Assisi portion of the Via du Francesco. We did it as part of a pilgrimage group with JC Journeys. I can’t tell from their website if they do self-guided tours, but they put together a custom option for our group that included self guided options. They focus heavily on the spiritual pilgrimage aspect. (They are based in England but seemed well-connected in Italy.)

In my opinion, the route is challenging in portions due to terrain and elevation, and I would not recommend doing it in the summer heat. Lots of narrow rocky ascents and descents. Many in our group had walked one of the the Camino routes and felt that was much easier. My husband and I felt that two of our Via do Francesco days (19 miles one day and 12 the next) were some of the toughest we’ve hiked. I would definitely recommend you bring poles.

Thanks @Tinac for the link to Sloways. @Sharon that's good advice about the ascents/descents, this part of this pilgrimage has been weighing heavily on my mind. Your comment about different Camino de Santiago routes matches what we've heard elsewhere.
