Via dell'Amore - Cinque Terre Trails

We realize there are MANY trails to hike in the Cinque Terre; specifically we want to know if parts of the BLUE trail are closed for hiking. i.e. How about the Via Dell' Amore section from Riomaggiore to Manorola?

Thank you. The Brekkes in Arizona

Yes, that one is mostly closed (doesn't go all the way through) as is the segment between Manarola and Corniglia. You can see which trails are closed on the park website. It's all in Italian but closed trails are clearly marked with a red and white circle:

The four Blue Trail (Sentiero Azzurro) segments are 592-1 (SVA2) - 592-4 (SVA2) on the chart.

Sylvia,

I haven't checked in awhile, but AFAIK this is the status of the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Path)......

  • Monterosso to Vernazza - open
  • Vernazza to Corniglia - open
  • Corniglia to Manarola - CLOSED (has been for quite some time due to a severe slide across the trail).
  • Manarola to Riomaggiore (Via dell' Amore) - CLOSED, except for a short section from the Manarola end to the Bar (closed since about Sept. 2012 when a severe rock slide seriously injured four Australian tourists).

Of course, this status can change at any time due to current conditions. Note that a Park Pass is required to hike the two sections that are open. You can easily purchase the pass at the start of the trail or at local stations.

Whatever you do, don't hike from Monterosso to Vernazza. My husband and I did that. It's a beautiful hike but Rick and others recommend that you hike Vernazza to Monterosso. Wish we'd read that part as we did it backwards and got to hike basically uphill most of the hike - at mid-afternoon in hot weather at that. Would have been so much easier hiking a large part of the trail downhill going from Vernazza to Monterosso.
