Via del Corso Rome

Looking at three hotels on or just off the Via del Corso. One close to Trevi Fountain, one in the pedestrian friendly area near Metro Spagna. Spending 3 nights with my 21 year old. Any suggestions or recommendations? First time to Rome to see the Colosseum & Vatican City.

If your hotel near Spagna is in the restaurant area surrounding v Condotti you could, depending on your room location, get some cafe and restaurant noise. But it does not go late into the night, and, in any event, you should be down there in those cafes. The Spagna tube stop provides an easy ride to the Vatican area (not a short walk from the stop to VC) and to the Colosseum (1 transfer, easily done). The in-station tube maps are easy to use. Make sure to get your tickets validated before boarding - the Metro cops take this seriously. I've been randomly stopped several times for a validation check. Sitting on the Spanish Steps in the morning as the piazza is waking up before the crowds arrive is a great way to enjoy a pastry and coffee.

Are you asking about what else do around the hotels? Or which area is better? Or simply for general suggestions about what else to enjoy in Rome. If it's the latter, then cross the river and visit the Trastevere neighborhood. Find a restaurant where only locales go and have them order your meal for you. If traveling in summer see the Miracle Players spoof on the Emperors of Rome, eat gelato, and if you have the desire, shop until you drop. Most of all simply relish the La Dolce Vita moments.
