Vesuvius...is it worth the hour bus ride?

A one hour bus ride to see Vesuvius? Yes, it is worth it, but you don't know me from Adam, so you'll have to decide for yourself if my opinion is of any use.

Although our initial plans were to go to Vesuvius when we were in Italy last fall, we opted out of it on the recommendation of our B&B host. He said that unless it is a perfectly clear day when you go there the sights/views aren't great. Hopefully someone who has visited there will respond and give you a better idea.

I combined Pompeii and Vesuvius same day while staying in Sorrento. I enjoyed the visit to Vesuvius, but bus schedules didn't allow me to linger as long as I would have liked. If you were up for an early start to Pompeii and did dinner in Sorrento before returning to Naples, then all 3 could be done in one day. If you prefer to linger in Pompeii and Sorrento, then the 4 hour plus detour to Vesuvius might be too much.
