Very expensive guide book! :)

We have been absorbing the pages of RS Italy.....have extended our trip....at this rate, we will need to move to Italy (and win the lottery) to do/see everything we are highlighting in the book! :)

Question....is there a trick to using the search function on this forum? example... I typed in cinque Terra, hoping to see posts about accommodations, but very few threads popped up. I hate to ask the same questions that have most likely been addresses previously....
Thanks!

I sometimes find that it's easier to search the forum using Google. In the Google search box put in cinque terre rick steves forum and quite a few come up. It lists info that is on the site but not in the forum as well.

Why not just look on Tripadvisor or booking.com? You'll get lots more reviews. And good luck with seeing everything in Italy. Rick Steves doesn't even cover some of the gems. We've been 16 times, and there's quite a few places we haven't gotten to.

But, don't be afraid to repost your question when you can't find the answer. Most posters realize the problem and are happy to help... and if the crabby ones give you a reprimand... just ignore them:)

First of all you need to make sure you spell the destination correctly. Lots of Americans incorrectly spell it Cinque Terra, when it should be 'Terre', ending with the letter 'e'.
But, as mentioned above, don't limit yourself to Rick Steves' website. Tripadvisor is probably the best source of accommodations, with people' reviews. Venere.com, Booking.com and similar search engines should yield many results as well.

jillmc22595: The search function on the Travel Forum yields puny results in my attempts. I do as Pamela advises and utilize the advanced search option of Google. Other great advice provided above. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your replies.
Roberto, my Nonna would be very disappointed in spelling.....I will blame it on autocorrect, or my crossed eyes from too much web browsing!
Rest assured I am researching other forums as well...enjoy your day. :)

Another issue with the search function above is that, even when you spell a name correctly, it only finds other people who used the same term and spelled it the same way. Unfortunately, results are not sorted by date, since other areas of the web site don't carry dates.

I believe that Rick's book compares the majority of hotels in those five towns, as well as some private rooms, but of course not all. Don't get too lost in accommodations, especially if you are not traveling this year. I think your time will be better spent on other areas of research.

P.S. When flew to Europe using frequent flier miles, that also turned out to be a "very expensive" ticket.

Trip Advisor has dedicated forums for various cities and regions. You might find it easier to browse through information specific to one locale there. However, the community here seems smaller with many frequent posters, so I find it a lot easier here to assess credibility and how much weight to give a posted opinion..
