Verona-worth a quick day trip?

Of course-trying to squeeze in as much as possible during my next trip. Spending 14 days but first week will be in Bologna/Imola region for the formula one race. Of course want to visit Motor valley (Modena/marenella). Was going to head to Tuscany region but friends we are meeting in Tuscany from Venice want to meet in Verona and then travel south--wondering if worth the two hours north ;-) Thanks for the honest feedback

Fast train from Bologna to Verona is less than an hour

We enjoyed a 3 night stay there so I’d say it’s worth a few hours.
It’s pretty compact

Hi there - We adored our time in Verona. It has some beautiful walks and sights along the river. The Piazza delle Erbe square is also lovely to wander. If you can time your visit to enjoy a concert or event at the Verona Arena, which is an ancient Roman arena still used today and is one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture, then I would definitely make time to visit the city. Here is the event calendar: https://www.arena.it/en/arena-di-verona/calendar

If was on the way I'd say it might be worth a quick stop, but I wouldn't drive 4 hours out of my way for it.
Better to spend those extra hours exploring the Tuscan countryside (IMHO).

Hello toebiz,

Verona is an elegant and interesting city which is definitely worth a day trip from Bologna if you're looking for one. There aren't a ton of "sights" - a Roman arena and theatre and San Zeno church - but it is mostly just a walkable old town based on Roman city nestled in huge bend in the river. The old town is an interesting mix of buildings frozen in elegant decay mixed with quaint shops and some high end shopping. In some ways it feels like a light version of Venice that way, but they used to be ruled by Venice so I guess that's not a surprise.

It is a very arts and music oriented city - their opera society celebrates 100 years next year - but that probably doesn't affect your visit as a day trip. If that sounds like a good time to you then I would recommend it.

Sounds like a great trip!
