If I want to see both, it is best to stay in Verona and day trip to Sirmione or vice versa? What are the means of transportation between the two? I'll be there in Sept and only have two days between Venice and Florence.Jeff

jeff, I'd suggest staying in Verona and taking a day trip to Sirmione. I'd travel by train from Verona Porta Nuova to Desenzano Del Garda-Sirmione (trip is only about 26M). Note that the station is about 10 kM from the town, so a short Bus or Taxi ride will probably also be necessary. Happy travels!

A number of years ago on one of our visits to Verona we took a bus to Sirminione. It left from the station and took us into the town centre, about an hour or so journey and straightforward. You may wish to check whether it is still running.
