I will be traveling via train from Rome to Innsbruck. I would need to either transfer in Verona or Padua no matter what train I take. If I were to take the route through Verona, it would be possible to have 3 to 4 hours there between trains. Any suggestions for a quick walking tour through Verona? This would be in the middle of the day. My plan would be to grab food and eat on the train to Innsbruck but if there is a no miss restaurant, I'd be open to suggestions there too.
I took an hour-long tour through Verona's visitor center. It was quite awhile ago, but I am assuming they still offer it- or at least an audio guide. The city is small, and in 3 or 4 hours, you can have a nice walk around town. Here's a link to the Tourist Information Center. Take a look here.
The walk from the train station to the centre of Verona is boring, but only a ten minute cab ride, so I would suggest a taxi.
Not sure about luggage storage at the Verona station, doubtless others will know.
“Juliet’s balcony” is a waste of time.
The Castel Vecchio museum is one of my favourites in Italy, superb architecture.
There is a baggage deposit (deposito bagagli) at the Verona train station, right across from the McDonald's inside the train station.
This is doable and I would lean toward 4 hours to enjoy yourself and the city. Definitely take taxis back and forth from the station to the Centro Historico. There’s a good walking tour in Rick’s guides. I’ve dined a few times at L’Orologio at Corso Porto Nuovo, 7 and have never been disappointed. It’s a very short walk to Centro and they offer about 40 wines by the glass and have wonderful local specialties. There is Left Luggage storage at Porta Nuova RR station.
We stopped in Verona for a few hours between venice and bologna. There is left luggage place as noted above. We taxied back and forth to maximize time. Loved Verona! It’s very alpine. Worth a couple hour walk.
Trams from the train station to the centre are frequent and quick. It’s too far to walk if you’re in a hurry. The Roman arena is worth a visit. There is also a Roman theatre on the river a short walk away and the river itself is good.
If you like museums the Castel Vecchio is great but could easily take up all your time.
Agree that so-called Juliet’s balcony is not worth it.
There is a luggage storage place on the first floor of the station.
