verona train station safe from 21:00-midnight? is Padua better?

Family with teens plan to take a nightjet train from Verona that departs at 22:43. Our plan is to travel from Venice with our luggage, store bags in left luggage until 8, then have dinner nearby train station until 9pm. I assume there is still activity and it is safe to wait inside train station from 9-midnight for our train?
Other option is to stay in Venice for the day, take 8pm to Padua, have dinner (with luggage) and catch the same night jet a bit earlier form Padua. Assuming Padua station is safe.

The station is safe, I am not sure lockers are open at those hours, just be sure to confirm.

I don't believe they have lockers in Italy, just manned storage rooms, so they don't operate all day. Rick has written that he did not like the area around Padua train station at night due to unsavory characters. I have no personal experience.

good to know about Padua. We'll plan on Verona then. Left luggage says it's open until 8pm. I would confirm in person when I checked my bags and plan to be there by 7:30 just to be sure. It's for summer travel, so I assumed there would be plenty of activity then.

I haven't enjoyed being around Padova station in the early evening - I'm not sure that I would like it any better into the night.

I haven't had similar problems in Verona.

I'm confused. You say that your train is at 22:43. That is 10:45 pm. Then you say you will be waiting until midnight for the train. Huh?

Why would you sit in the train station from 9 until 10:45? Just get to the train station 15 minutes before. At least go into town (arena) with your bags. Taxis are right there. Buses are also frequent. That train station is not very exciting. Safe, sure, but not somewhere I’d sit for 2 hours.

I agree about the area around the station in Padua: I like the city a lot, but the station area isn't very attractive. Never felt uncomfortable there, but I wasn't in the station after dark.

thank you. We would train from Venice to Verona in the AM and store our bags until dinner, then return to station and wait from 9-10:30 or so. Not really wanting to go back into town with 4 suitcases in tow.
