Verona train station

Are there lockers at the Verona train station. We are traveling by train from Venice to Milan and plan to stop in Verona for a few hours. How far is the station from downtown? Any must sees for a few hour stay?

Don't remember any lockers at the station, or even a bag check place, but I can speak to the distance to the old center... it's about a 10-15 min walk, not far, and pretty easy. No need for a taxi, it's walkable. The colosseum is a must, the central piazza is fun. We were there in a terrible rain storm, so didn't make it to "juliet's balcony". I wanted to go just cuz it's "cheesy" We were there for just a few hours as well. Enjoyed lunch and a quick tour of the colosseum (which is located in the main square) just do a google search for Verona, I'm sure you will find some sights to your personal liking! it's a very pretty little town.

No lockers, but they do have a baggage check area. I used it in September. The old town area is a little far to walk, but there are buses or you can take a cab. For such a short visit I would take a cab. There is a lot to see in a small area. I would pick up a map at the train station so you don't waste time getting lost. I loved Verona!

As mentioned, I believe there is a baggage check. Downtown is like a 15 minute walk, or a quick bus ride, which are readily available. I believe Rick's Italy book mentions which bus lines will take you directly to downtown. Enjoy your trip!

This Link shows all the train stations in Italy that do have "Left Luggage" facilities. Scan down to the bottom of the post for the entire list! There, you'll see that Verona Porta Nuova, located in Piazzale XXV Aprile, DOES have luggage storage facilities. As mentioned, catch the bus if you're short on time. Too bad you cannot spend the night as Operas performed in the Colosseo are incredible!

Jan, I don't recall any "Left Luggage" facilities at Verona Porta Nuova, but I wasn't looking. This Page provides some information that may help you. Regarding getting to the "downtown" (Piazza Bra, Piazza Erbe), it is possible to walk but I'd suggest using either the Bus (which will likely be waiting right outside the station) or a Taxi. For a short visit of a few hours, you might have a look at the Roman Amphitheatre or perhaps the famous (but fictitious) Romeo & Juliet balcony. During the summer, Opera's and other musical events are held in the Amphitheatre (including the Wind 2010 Music Awards - some of the performance and glimpses of the venue can be seen on You Tube). There are LOTS of restaurants surrounding both Piazza's so you could stop for lunch also. Happy travels!

Thanks for the info - if we decided to rent a car and drive to Verona, is parking a problem in the town? Is it easy to drive from there to Milan airport?

Jan, since you are going to have a car if you have enough time and the weather is decent, I highly recommend a quick stop at Giardino Giusti. It is an amazing garden with gorgeous views over the city. One of the highlights of our last trip!

Jan, There are parking facilities in various parts of the city, but I always find travel by train to be faster and less of a "hassle" (unless the city isn't well served by rail or other public transport). Like many cities in Italy, Verona also has ZTL areas, so that's another thing to keep in mind. Note that for driving in Italy, each driver will require the compulsory International Driver's Permit which must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. These are valid for one year, and can be easily obtained at any AAA office. A GPS along with a good Map would also be a good idea. Cheers!

We did not see any lockers in Verona when we stopped there, but we were only there for like 10 minutes. We only had time to walk down the stairs under the platform, walk up the stairs and find our train to Munich.
