My wife and I will need to get from Verona to Venice's Marco Polo Airport. Private car hire is too expensive for us, and bus times are too inconvenient, so we're looking into a train/taxi solution. Trains don't go directly to the airport; ours would terminate in Mestre and we'd take a taxi from there to the airport. Also, we would need to change trains in Padua. Does this seem workable? Is the change of trains in Padua easy, and is it easy to get a taxi at Mestre? I'd appreciate any suggestions and/or relevant info. Thanks.
What time is your flight out of VCE?
You should be able to go from Verona to Mestre without a change ( fast train takes 1 hour-no changes)
Are you looking on the official train site?
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html
What time/ date?
Monday, October 2. Noon flight; prefer to arrive at VCE 2 hours before departure.
If your flight is going to US you should be there 3 hours in advance
You could take a regional that leaves Verona Porto Nuovo at 7:22 arrives Venezia Mestre at 8:37
Or first fast train leaves Verona Porto Nuovo at 8 arrives Mestre at 9
The difference in cost is 5.90 euros each
Both are direct -meaning No Changes
You will have assigned seats on the fast train but not on the regional
You can purchase tix now in the site if on the app
If you purchase at the station and choose the regional br sure to validate your tickets
Airport is about 10-15 min drive from Mestre station and cabs will be available at the station
Also, we would need to change trains in Padua.
No, you wouldn't. As displayed on trenitalia.com a train stop in Padua (or Vicenza) does not mean you must change trains in Padua (or Vicenza).
Where does the plane land after leaving VCE?
That has a lot to do with what procedural hurdles you need to clear at VCE and what is an appropriate amount of time to allow.
Try looking at GoOpti They’re affordable and go to VCE. You can select rideshare or private transfer.
I took a taxi from a hotel very near the Venice Mestre train station to the airport last fall. The cost was about €35; there may have been a modest extra fee for prebooking included.
At least some of the gates for US-bound flights are on the lower floor of the airport. The signage should be adequate if you know to look for it, but I didn't, so I was initially confused by not seeing any signage for my airline.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't spend my last night in Verona in this situation. My philosophy is to sleep close enough to the departure airport that I could afford (in terms of both time and monetary cost) to get there by taxi in the event of a major disruption in my planned public-transportation route. The distance in this case is over 75 miles.
THUMP! (That was the sound of me hitting the side of my head with the palm of my hand.) Pretty dumb of me not to consult trenitalia before asking my questions. To answer one of yours, we fly first to LHR, then on to LAX and Honolulu. No problems at this time with those legs. Thanks for your replies; I appreciate the help.
You will be exiting Schengen at VCE
Be there 3 hours preflight
That’s quite a long day
You might consider staying in Mestre the night before
