Verona to Venice by train ... need reservations?

5 of us are traveling from Verona to Venice by train on a Sunday afternoon in July. There are 2 trains per hour, but do they sell out frequently that time of year? We were hoping not to be tied into a particular departure time but also don't want to not get to Venice! Should we get our tickets before we leave the US?

Andrea, The trains could be busy on a Sunday afternoon at that time of year, but there are frequent trains on that route so I'm sure you'll be able to get to Venice. I'd suggest buying your tickets in Italy a few days before you'll be travelling (perhaps when you arrive, as you'll be at Verona Porta Nuova anyway). Reservations are usually compulsory on that route, so you'll be assigned a specific train and travel time. Happy travels!

The train is frequent so you would probably be okay, but at the same timetrains on weekends during the summer are always pretty crowded. If you can figure out which train you would like to ride, you can purchase your fare at the Mini price if you don't need the flexibility of a different ticket. This will save you money and assure your seat. My suggestion would be to buy a ticket for a later departure time. Because even if you want the flexibility of not being tied inwell if you can't make the first train you try, you will be waiting around the station for an additional half hour or more until the next one. Would you prefer to potentially waste time at a train station, or be tied into one certain time? That is a personal choice, just something to think about.
