We will be in Verona for 2 nights in May, arriving 10 AM, so will have a full day. I was thinking on day 2 going to Pescheria, as it is only a 14 min train ride, for a couple hours and lunch. Is it worth it? Should we spend more time there? Or should we just stay in Verona?
Charlotte,
Peschiera is a very scenic town right on Lago di Garda, and IMO it's definitely worth a short visit. From the station you can walk to the main part of town and the boat docks in about 15 minutes (less time once you know the way). There are some nice restaurants right along the lake and the small canals. If you don't want to walk, there are usually Taxis waiting outside the station and the ride to the main part of town will only be a few minutes so not too expensive.
Have a look at this website for some ideas on what to do and see while there.....

Thanks Ken! I will be going!
Charlotte,
If you decide to go to Peschiera, you may want to take the ferry & visit some of the villages along the lake.
Here is the website for the ferry schedule:http://www.navlaghi.it/eng/g_illago.html
My mom & I enjoyed visiting Lazise, Bardolino & Garda, on a day trip from Verona this past October.
We did not visit Sirmione as we'd read that it was very touristy & crowded.
Have a wonderful trip!
I'd definitely agree with the previous reply that it's not a good idea to visit Sirmione as it IS crowded and touristy. I never plan to go there again! It's also somewhat awkward to reach, as it doesn't have a train station.
But may I add that Verona is so beautiful and wonderful (as is the lake) that you want to be sure you allow enough time to see it. One of the most beautiful towns in Europe! : )
Charlotte, just to defend Sirmione a little bit, I was there last May and quite enjoyed it. Yes there are many tourists in the main square and in the castle near the entry to the town (many people there because it is highly recommended, I expect) but beyond that area, it is really quite quiet and empty. I walked all the way out to the extensive Roman ruins on the point of the little peninsula, right on the shore of the lake, where there is also a small museum and an olive grove, supposedly 2,000 years old. It was a very peaceful walk there and back. I took a direct bus from Verona to Sirmione, then took a ferry over to Bardolino, wandered the town and visited the winery with small wine museum, and took another bus back to Verona. Nice day.
Thanks all!
I also suggest to visit Sirmione if you are in Peschiera.
I know it's full of tourists in summer, but Disney World is crowded too, but I bet if you were in Orlando, you wouldn't tell your kids/grandkids: "I'm not taking you to Disney World because it's too touristy". It's one of those things that you have to visit if you are in the area, even if it's crowded and touristy.
