Verona to Ortisei

Hello, all! I am planning a ski trip to the Dolomites from the US, staying in Ortisei. Our flight lands in Verona, and my question is regarding transportation to Ortisei. We are considering taking a taxi from Bolzano to Ortisei. Our flight lands in Verona at 2:10 PM, and if I'm reading the bus table correctly, I think the last bus out of Bolzano to Ortisei is 7:28 PM, so the latest we can leave Verona is 5 PM. I'm concerned there is not a lot of margin for error particularly with the flight arriving in Verona on time which is the least predictable part. Furthermore, after a 10 hour flight, 1:30 hr train, and 45 min bus ride into the city center, having to carry luggage to our lodging sounds exhausting. That's why getting a taxi from Bolzano sounds appealing as I'm assuming they can drop us off right at our lodging.

  1. How easy is it to get a taxi from Bolzano train station that would take us to Ortisei? Ideally something not pre-booked to allow flexibility in getting from Verona to Bolzano. (Ride share app?)
  2. Any idea the general price?
  3. I see there are a couple of train stations north of Bolzano (Ponte Gardena, Chiusa) that are closer in distance to Ortisei but are smaller train stations. Would a taxi from one of those stations be cheaper? Would it still be easy to get a taxi from these stations given they are smaller?

  4. Somewhat unrelated, but for those of you who have done and who do this trip frequently, what are your thoughts on bringing your own gear? With the above, the addition of a pair of skis sounds cumbersome.

Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate any input!

I always rent skis nowadays, as lugging skis to Europe is cumbersome as you say, especially if you are taking public transport or taxis. I do bring my boots and a set of ski clothes as my carry-on back pack, so even if my luggage gets delayed, I know I will be able to ski the next day.

According to the current timetable, which goes until Dec 14, the last 350 bus from Bolzano bus station to Ortisei is at 7:28 pm. I would expect not much change when the Winter Timetable comes out.

Yes, you will have better luck at the main Bolzano train station finding a taxi if you need one.

You're going to my favorite ski destination in Europe.

PS. According to the current schedule, you could depart Verona Porta Nuova station as late at 5:50 pm. You would miss the the 350 bus in Bolzano by a few minutes, but instead transfer to the train to Waidbruck and you will have overtaken the bus and be able to get it there with 10 minutes to spare.

That means the 5:30 pm Airlink bus will get you to Porta Nuova in time to get the 5:50 pm train. Where are you coming from? If from North America, you must be transferring somewhere in Europe to fly into Verona.

Every year that we go to Ortisei we have Taxi Ivan pick us up at Bolzano station http://taxi-ivan.com/. He will monitor the train arrival time and meet you outside in his marked van. Not sure what the cost will be this year. Two years ago I was. €90.00. Worth it for the door-to-door convenience especially when you are exhausted.

We skied at Alpe di Siuse. Arrived in Balzano by train and there was a van shuttle service that met us and took us to our hotel. If I remember correctly, it was €60 euros for a shared ride (we we the only passengers) or around €80 for private. Worked great! If I can dig up name from 2020 I’ll add another reply.
