Verona to Lake Garda

Good afternoon everyone, Looking for advice on a future trip to Verona and heading over to Lake Garda by public transportation. Where should we go on Garda that would be easy access from Verona? Via bus or train is best? thank you, as always your opinions are very appreciated!

Did you want a day trip or to stay for some time? I recently stayed in Verona, and did a day trip to Peschiera, closest city to reach on the lake. Takes 14 minutes by train and runs frequently. I loved the town, has cute restaurants on the canals.

Marie,

We stayed in Verona & took a day trip to Lake Garda.
We actually took the bus there as our original plan had been to travel to Garda,
but we received wrong info from the tourist office & the bus we wanted didn't show up, so we took another bus that took us to Peschiera, we then took the ferry to visit some of the lakeside villages (Garda, Bardolino & Lazise).

We enjoyed visiting all these quaint villages & enjoyed a good lunch too.

We took the train back to Verona & it was much faster, around 15 minutes.

The bus took over an hour as we ended up in heavy traffic on a one-lane highway...

So I'd say... take the train & enjoy your trip!

Charlotte, thanks for your reply, but I am actually hoping to go to Sirmione. Has anyone been there recently? Hoping to get the train to Desenzano then the bus to Sirmione, is this difficult with a group? Or would it be better to go to another town on the lake with a group?

It depends on how big the group is. A city bus can hold only so many people. If your group is very large you might have to split and one group takes the next bus. There are also taxis that can take you there for a bit more.

marie,

Sirmione is the least convenient of the towns to reach by public transportation, as you'll have to use Bus or Taxi from either Peschiera or Desenzano. If you're travelling with a large group and not fussy on which town to visit, Peschiera would be an easier choice.

Also, for visits to Sirmione it's a really good idea to choose which day you visit, as some days are horrendously crowded and not a pleasant experience.
