Verona - Rick Steves Walk

If anyone has done the Rick Steve's Walk in Verona, I was curious as to how long that took. It obviously depends upon how long you stop, etc, but trying to get a rough idea. Thank you!

Rick estimates about 2 hours and that seems generous. The largest chunk of time would be whether you climb/funicular up to the view point above the city or not. That's probably at least 30 minutes up and back so without it the walk is probably more like 1:30 or less. Verona is a very walkable town in the core so there are plenty of different ways to walk around and see the various sights without following his walk to the T as long as you know where the actual viewpoints are. Although wandering around will probably add time.

Walk past the Juliet alcove and just look inside and you can see the famous (fake) balcony and just keep walking. If it's a weekend the street in front of it can be packed with people standing in line. If you tour the theater and the archeological museum and keep going up you will get essentially the same view as the "castle" on top of the hill. The back of the museum grounds are the bottom of the upper boundary of the viewpoint up there.

If you like modern art there is a small but interesting, under advertised, museum in Palazzo Maffei that mixes old and modern art and has some great views of Piazza Erbe. Also I would add walking down the street outside the Juliet balcony and couple of blocks to see the viewport down into the Roman ruins, but YMMV.

Enjoy Verona,

Verona is a chic, arty city with a cafe culture vibe. Unless you're asking because you're on a time crunch I would keep the key sites in mind and just wander the central core as you feel. It follows the old Roman grid system so it's pretty straightforward and you're bounded by the Adige river that wraps around it so there's no way to get too lost. Whenever you feel like you've see enough there will be an cafe with outdoor seating (or probably a couple of choose from) so you can plop down and have a sprtiz, snack or lunch as you desire.

I much prefer Piazza Erbe are over the Piazza Bra (with the arena) for hanging out but there the whole city seems to be set up for walking, window shopping and cafe lounging so don't worry too much about a set path. There is a can stand in Piazza Erbe if you're heading back to the station or you're done walking.

Verona is a lovely city - enjoy,
