Any suggestions for a restaurant in Verona near the plaza?
There are two main piazzas in Verona - Bra and Erbe - which are close to each other and linked by pedestrian streets. Bra has the Roman Arena and Erbe is surrounded by medieval buildings with faded mosaics. Both are lined with restaurants but maybe not the best ones given the advantage of their locations.
Ristorante Maffei is the fanciest place in town just off Piazza Erbe inside the old palazzo.
What is your criteria for a good restaurant?
Verona tends to be an old fashioned town when it comes to food so there a lot of restaurants serving traditional food in Osterias - there are a whole line of interesting places along Via Sottoriva under the porticos near the river.
Caffè Monte Baldo on a side street is my particular favorite but may not be yours.
I believe one of the guys consulting on the RS food book said that Trattoria al Bersagliere was one of his top restaurants in Italy but I haven't been there. It is well away from the touristy area of the city center.
Hope that helps, if you have specific criteria let everyone know,

Had an unforgettable dinner at Osteria Ponte Pietra a few years ago. Sat outside on the ledge overlooking the river with the bridge a few meters away. My Fiorentina was so good that we had to return the next night so my wife could order it.
