Verona rental car pickup

I am arriving in Verona from Switzerland via train to spend the night and then will be picking up a rental car to drive on to the Dolomites and Julian Alps. There are several choices for pickup locations for the rental car, including the train station and the airport. Does anyone have experience with which location may be preferable regarding ZTL zones in central Verona and access to roads north. Thanks.

I have a similar situation and no real knowledge to share, but I decided on a Verona airport pick up as someone will drop me off there after a car trip we are taking together, and as it will be a Sunday, the airport is the only option for me to pick up a car for another part of the journey. BUT I will return to the train station location for ease of going on by train. My experience in Italy has been that you can always route around the ZTL after picking up at a car rental. Just ask for directions.

I have not rented in Verona, but I know Verona and I have driven there multiple times, including in the city center to the Arena and also to pick up and drop off people at the airport.
If you are arriving by train why would you want to go all the way to Villafranca and pay more for the car (airport pickup costs more).?
I checked and all major companies are within walking distance from the Porta Nuova station. You are way out of the ZTL which starts up north of there at the top of Corso Porta Nuova, practically at the arena. To get to the freeway you would go the opposite direction down viale del lavoro straight to Verona Sud entrance on the A4. You have zero chance of getting inside the ZTL even if you are blind and can't see the signs. And if you go to visit the city center go up Corso Porta Nuova until you see the ancient walls with the city doors (two arches). The ZTL starts there in Piazza Bra, you just turn right a couple of blocks before on Piazza Cittadella and there is an underground garage right in front after you turn right on piazza Cittadella. That's where I always park, basically 100 yards from the arena.

Edit: I just see that you will be spending the night in town, so you won't even need to drive to the parking lot. When you pick up near the station drive down Viale del Lavoro until you see the signs to the A4 freeway entrance (Verona Sud). Follow directions to Milan and near the airport take the A22 north toward Trento, Bolzano, Brennero. You could also take the tangenziale to Verona Nord directly on the A22, but I think going south to Viale del Lavoro then the A4 is easier and harder to get lost. If you prefer to go toward Venice first then take the A4 east toward Padua, Venezia.

Roberto thanks for the great info. Exactly what I was hoping to get. And good point about the airport pickup costing extra. Thanks again.
