A colleague is taking his parents to Verona this weekend for the opera however he does not want to stay for the full three hours so he is wondering how late are all the restaurants and cafes open on the piazza outside the Arena so he can kill time there til it's finished. As it's Saturday night, I'd assume that they'll be open well after the opera ends but wanted to get a definite answer if anyone knows.
I was there in 2011 during that time. My train was held up because of a strike and I didn't arrive in Verona until 0100. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get a taxi, anything to eat....etc. When the taxi deposited me at the piazza.....it was completely full of people eating, drinking and strolling. I don't know if that is a "definite" answer but it was my experience.
Earlier this month I went to the Aida in Verona. The show ended at almost 1:00 am. Every cafe' in the Piazza Bra' was full of people and couldn't find a table. I had a pizza nearby at a place where I could find a seat. Walked out of the pizzeria at 1:30am.
Grazie to you both, I figured that was the case as that's the way it is here in Vicenza - it'll be a Tuesday night and the piazza will be packed at 2 am - but wanted to be sure so I don't give my colleague bad info.
