Verona in October? Can't find a available hotel!

Is there any big festivals or events happening in Verona in mid-October? I am not seeing any in the RS festival or events calendar, yet am having trouble booking a room in Verona for only two nights. Please advise.... The hotels I have tried are fully booked in October. What is going on? Thanks! Karen

In looking at one of Rick's listings like www.colombahotel.com, which has 51 rooms but shows no rooms available past Sept. 24, I interpret that as either they have not yet opened bookings for the fall, or else they plan to close for renovation. Another from the book, www.veronahoteleuropa.com, does have availability on a random mid-week test date.

Karen,

If you can get a room at Hotel Europa, I'd highly recommend it. It's in a great location very close to Piazza Bra, the rooms are nice and they serve a great breakfast.

We stayed at B&B Il Guiro. It has two rooms and a shared bathroom but the rooms, breakfast and hosts were all wonderful. We would stay again. Website says rooms are 50€?

A few years ago, I enjoyed a small B & B called Arte Nel Centro, mid-way between the train station and old city. Great location if you are doing some days trips, as you can just walk in either direction. Lovely rooms, top-ranked on booking.com, modest price, excellent breakfast, currently available in mid-October. I found Verona to be a wonderful base to spend some days in, with day trips elsewhere, much better 5hsn when I had visited Verona as a day trip in the past.

The above may be an advert, but if you don't want to click on the link you can find Palazzo Zeiner on booking.com, where it gets excellent reviews. They have one-and two- bedroom apartments. On their own website, they are all named for opera composers: Bizet, Puccini, Rossini, Verdi, and Mozart.
