Verona Hotel or B&B

I've searched the archives with no luck. Can anyone recommend a small hotel or B&B in Verona for under 150E a night? We're looking for something in the historic center. We're thinking about staying there a couple of nights at the end of our time in Italy before flying to Amsterdam.

Thanks.

We stayed at the Hotel Aurora and were very happy with it. It's right at Piazza Erbe. You don't indicate when you're going to visit Verona. You should be aware that during opera season, starting in early June, all the hotel rates rise significantly.

We liked Hotel Torcolo but as you can see from their website, they are a lot more expensive during opera season!! It's a great location!

I'll add that Hotel Torcolo is very centrally located near Piazza Bra--not near the train station. Being there in May should be perfect!

Actually, the "change in hotel recommendations" is for Padua, not Verona. Here is what Rick's blog says:

"Now, before I catch my train to Verona, I massage these ideas into the Padua chapter for the 2011 edition.

I deleted all the hotels near the station (as that area has grown seedy)"

But the original question was about staying in the historic center anyway, not near the train station.

I also liked Hotel Torcolo. Great location not far from the arena. When I stayed there in 2008, the two ladies who worked at the front desk were just delightful and very helpful.

Looks like Hotel Torcolo is a favorite. We considered it, but didn't book there because we need 2 rooms, which would be very expensive as we will be there on opera nights.

Instead, we will be staying in a nearby B&B. If it works out well, I will post it (after our return) as an alternative---it's always nice to have a choice of places.

Michael,

I stayed in Hotel Europa in Verona and would certainly recommend it. It was in a great location, only a short walk to Piazza Bra, Piazza Erbe or the Arena or other sights.

While that area is walkable from the station, I'd suggest Taxi or Bus.

I stayed at the Hotel Milano in February, for 73E, with the best breakfast of my trip. They were in the middle of remodelling and I was in a remodelled room. It was very small, but the bed was huge and sooo comfy. The bathroom was tiny, but all the "mod-cons." It is about 50 meters from the Arena (in the direction of Piazza Bra). The staff were great.
