Verona for three nights

We will arrive in Verona on the 30th, mid afternoon, to go to Elton John concert at the colosseum that night. Spending two more nights there. We would either take the 9:45, 12:45 or 2:45 train on the day we leave, June 2nd. So we’ll have almost 3 full days. Does anyone know if there is luggage storage at train station?

I’ve read RS, but interested In your favorite places to see in or around Verona? Thinking about taking the train to Padova for a day trip.

Open to suggestions. Thanks

Yes, there is luggage storage at the station. I love just walking around the city because it is so medieval. Another day trip is Soave.

The Giardino Giusti is wonderful. I also enjoyed seeing the Sant' Anastasia and San Zeno churches.

Sounds wonderful. There is left luggage at the Verona train station but it’s only open until 11 pm. Can you leave your luggage at your hotel? If you do go to Padua, recommend visiting the Basilica of St. Anthony. Beautiful and very active. The audio-visual presentation is quite memorable.

We are renting apartment through booking.com and checkout is at 10. With luggage storage, gives us flexibility to take later train.

Thanks for suggestions.

We have friends from Colorado in the vicinity that week, so we may go to Bolzano for a night (maybe two) before Verona.

Love to hear how you make out and if you visit Bolzano - we're spending 2 nights in Bolzano and two in Verona in late Sept...

If you do go to Padova, I hope you'll see the Scrovegni Chapel, for its Giotto frescoes - it does require reservations in advance.

We are also staying in Verona for three nights. One full day in Verona, another day taking a bus to Lake Garda and hopping on one of the ferries to tour the lake.

We had a great stay in Verona. Different than expected, but taking it in stride is the best way to travel.

Unfortunately the Elton John Concert was cancelled 3 hours before it was to start. We were already sitting at THE corner table at a restaurant on Piazza Brà, closest to the Arena. I was about to stand in line, as we had tickets for open seating, but were shushed behind the barricades. Not understanding what transpired, someone showed me their phone and Elton Johns management posted on facebook that the concert would not be held that evening. After going back to the table where my husband still was, we checked out Elton’s Facebook tour page with a lot of comments by disappointed fans. Someone posted it was time for wine, I posted back saying we had an extra chair at our table, just look for the Chocolate lab. Two minutes later we were joined by a fellow disappointed concert goer from Germany. We spent the next 3 hours chatting, drinking, and eating. Four hours at the prime table and we had to hunt down the waiter for our check-only in Italia!

The next day we explored Verona following the RS self guided tour. Then on day three we took the train to Padova for the day, saw the beginning of a Gay Pride parade, then came back for dinner recommended above at Osteria il Bertoldo.

But the highlight of our weekend ended up being day 4. We walked around the corner for coffee and there were barricades set up for an event. Turns out the 21st and final stage of Giro d’italia bike race was in Verona on Sunday. So we dropped our bags at the station, and had a great time watching the cyclists, took the 4:45 train and were back home by 10:00.

While our weekend didn’t go as planned, we still had a fabulous time!

Karen, what a lovely, inspiring last post! You really made "taking travel in stride" work and reminded me to just let it roll when plans fall apart. Yep, wine and new friends can't be underrated. Especially when sitting in Piazza Bra! Thank you!

I love the saying “handed grapes and made wine” saying. This should be every traveler’s motto when things go wrong- better said “ things don’t go as expected”.
