Verona for 1 Night - Itinerary Advice?

We're planning to return to Italy in May of 2011. Our current itinerary is: Rome 3 nights, Florence 3 nights, Vernazza 2 nights, Venice 3 nights. Then fly to Paris for 5 nights. We will be using trains only in Italy, no car this time. (On our last trip we saw a lot of Tuscany with a car.) Rome and FLorence are return visits. It will be our 1st time in CT and first in Venice. For those of you who know Verona, I'm wondering if we could make it a 1 night stop between Vernazza and Venice. I'm assuming we would need to go La Spezia/Florence/Verona then on to Venice? Would we be short-changing ourselves by such a short stay in Verona? I read mixed reviews about Verona, but something about it intrigues me and I thought it might be a nice stop before Venice. I would appreciate your input/advice. Grazie !

My first visit to Verona was a day stop en route from Milan to Venice and I was able to see quite a bit (October). My second visit was 1-1/2 days (flew into Milan, trained directly to Verona, then took an evening train to Venice the next day, in February). I was not disappointed either time. It is quite different from the other places you have been or will be going to.

Either way you will be able to see a lot of the town. It is one of my favorite places in Italy.

I am also a big fan of Verona! We stayed at Hotel Torcolo, ate some fabulous meals, enjoyed Rick Steves walking tour, the Roman Theater/Museum, the Arena, and Enoteca Oreste. Verona is a fun city!

You will need a night stop between Venice and Vernazza. We drove and stayed in Modena after staying in Verona prior to Venice.

I think Verona is a good place to make your stop, there is plenty to see within walking distance of the old center. You probably won't have a chance for activities but will have time for a good look around.
