Verona During Opera Season

Hi! I will be going to northern Italy in late June/early July on my honeymoon (as well as part of Switzerland and Salzburg) and I'm trying to find a good central location that we can stay in and take day trips to places like Venice and Bolzano. I was thinking Verona since it has ambiance and is right in the middle of the Venice-Milan rail line. I am worried about crowding and high hotel prices during opera season. Should I shy away? I had thought about a B&B or Agriturismo outside of the city, but we won't have a car to get to the city. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Gina, accommodation is certainly more expensive during opera season, but if you want to see the opera (fantastic!!) bear the cost, even if for one night. I had three nights there, which included a day trip to Lake Garda by local bus. verona is a gorgeous Roman town.
