Verona connection time

I am trying to plan a trip for 7 in June that includes a week in Zakynthos followed by a week in Sicily, near Catania. Getting between the two destinations is proving to be a challenge.

I’ve found 1 flight option: ZTH to VRN on Volotea (10:10 - 11:25am) then VRN to CTA on Wizz Air Malta departing at 1:30.

Of course the flights need to be on time. Assuming they are (a big assumption of course) is it likely we can make the 1:30? There are no other flight options unless we want to spend overnight in the airport and spend 15-20 hrs to travel between the 2 islands.

Any/all suggestions greatly appreciated.

It sounds high risk. Does Wizz Air Malta have an option for the following day if there was a hiccup?

You may can fly from ZTH to Naples on EasyJet--with flights beginning 6/1/2024. The flights are not yet showing up on EasyJet's website, however.

Voltea and Ryanair are also supposed to be flying that route seasonally.

EasyJet and Ryanair also fly Naples to Catania, however I don't know if the times line up with the flights from ZTH.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve looked at both Ryanair and EasyJet but either the flights aren’t showing or don’t line up (eg I only see Ryanair flights on Wed not on Sat). The dates are important because I am hoping to book weekly villa rentals that run Sat - Sat. I was hoping to select another destination (and might if I can find a nice villa and easy flight access) but my wife has her heart set on Sicily.

Appreciate other comments/input. I know it’s very late to be planning this, but I am committed to making it happen.

Since it sounds like you are going on a Saturday, Wizz Air also has a flight on Sunday if there was a problem. Miss a day in Sicily, but hey, a night in Verona beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Not making the Saturday connection could be costly. The villa runs about $2K/night (which would be wasted) and then I have to find (and pay for) last -minute lodging for 7 of us in Verona. A last minute scramble like that is not really how I hope to spend a day of my vacation.

So what possible assurances from anyone on this forum make that nothing can go wrong? After all, it is just random people's opinions. Nobody really knows, because nobody ever did this before. You'll be a pioneer.

Well, I wasn’t expecting to be assured, but was hoping someone that’s caught a connection in Verona would share their opinion. I’ve probably been to 50+ airports over the years, and would have an opinion of which ones a 2-hr connection is a slam dunk, and which are nearly impossible. Given the size, layout, and experienced queue times, does this sound like a high- or low-risk proposition. That’s all.

From what I can tell, Verona airport has two terminals, one for arrivals and one for departures, so you will exit the arrivals terminal and walk to the departure terminal, recheck your bags, go through security. It is not that far. The airport was not built for making plane changes, but for passengers arriving or departing Verona as their final destination or starting point.
