Verona Aqua Therme

Has anyone been there? The heat in Verona has us thinking about possibly taking a day trip. We also consider Lake Garda. Is either one easy to do by bus?

Lake Garda can be done by bus in the north, but more fun is a train to Peschiera and then ferries! I am obsessed with Lake Garda :)

Thank you Katherine! I’ll check that. Is it relatively easy to figure out at the train station, round trip, for non Italian speaking?

Oh yes, we purchased tickets at the Verona station on the machine that you can switch to English. A tip that carries all across Italy, the train you are taking might not terminate in your destination (which the terminus is how they are listed on the train schedule board), so I would check the train numbers of the ones arriving/departing near your time to make sure you know towards which train you are going.

The one mistake we made (I was SO ASHAMED) on that regionale train was that it was a slightly "fancier" one and it had first and second class tickets.....we bought the second, to save 3 euro (or something very tiny HAHAHAH) but it was early in the morning before our adventures, so when it came time to leave, we just hopped on the train and forgot it had two classes.....as soon as the conductor came in to check tickets and we saw some youngins maneuvering into the next car trying to doge her saying "prima" I was like "AHHHHH WE ARE IN THE WRONG CAR!" and I rushed up to her and apologized and admitted my mistake and she told me to sit down and only made us pay the fare difference, WHEW :)

From the train station it is probably 5-10 min walk to the ferry dock, I would make a plan by using the navigazione laghi website because some ferries go some places and others go in a different direction.....we were only able to go to Garda for the market day and Sirmione to wander about due to the schedules of the ferries, but it's easy to make a plan

Katherine, I just saw your 2nd mesg this morning. ..unfortunately. We took the train to Peschiera, then walked to what we thought was the ferry dock area because we saw many boats. It was an unbelievably hot walk. Not until we got almost to the end did we learn that we had to go all the way back to get to the other side of the lake! We walked to the end, then turned around back across the bridge to other side which, thankfully, had trees and shade. We simply couldn’t walk any more so gave up and took train back. At the bus station, we couldn’t determine which was our bus even though we remembered the #. No sign indicated Pl Bordari, or Bra. Everyone we asked didn’t know. HOT bus sta. Finally someone knew.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! The last time I was in Verona, I had forgotten my Rick Steves' book at home and I didn't have phone data and we knew we had to take a bus to the center and we asked the ticket person....it was a lot of guessing.....at the end of our visit we had to find the best bus back to the station, Verona public wifi for the win!
