My husband and I will be traveling in September, by car, from Menaggio to visit Verona and Lake Garda, and then on to Innsbruck and Zurich. I am trying to decide if it would be preferable to stay in Verona and visit Lake Garda, or stay in Bardolino and visit Verona. I have read suggestions to stay two nights in each town, but we prefer to sleep in the same place for 3-4 nights, rather than spending time switching hotels, or apartments. Thus, my question is in which town should we base ourselves to visit both areas, and why would you suggest one or the other. Thank you for all your advice.

We had the same dilemma a few years ago and decided to stay in between:

I would stay in Bardolino. Then you can start your day with a swim and end your day with a drink on the waterfront while you enjoy the view of the lake.
