I am going from Vernazza to Venice on July 16th, 2008. I know that the regional train is going to take me from Vernazza to La Spezia La Spezia to Bologna Then the regular eurorail will take me from Bologna to Venice I am to arrive in Venice at 1317. My problem is that when I look-up this itinerary for July 16th on www.trenitatlia.it nothing comes up. I look it up for May and parts of June and the itinerary exists. Is it that they have not updated the schedule this far in advance? How far in advance do they usually have there schedules on the computer? If I look at the May and June and I just assume that this itinerary will exists for July? Also, with regional trains do I have to purchase a ticket if I already have a eurorail ticket? and is it correct that there are no reservations for the regional trains. Thanks. Sarah
Hi Sarah. We made this journey earlier this month, only with a stop over in Florence. It was very easy. Re Trenitalia the schedule changes slightly in mid June, so the new one is not up yet. Don't worry, there are numerous trains making this trip everyday, via many different paths. For example from Vernazza there is a direct train to Pisa, and then a direct train to Florence (both regional). from Florence you can catch a regional or Eurostar to Venice. The regional trains do not accept reservations, so if you plan on using the reginonal trains there is no need for a ticket or reservation. That being said its going to be a very long trip if you go the whole way on regional trains. You might wish to consider the eurostar from florence or Bolongna, but for that you need to purchase a seat reservation to go with your pass. You should be able to do that even a few days before your trip, but be aware that you may not be able to do that in Vernazza. Its a very small train station.
