Vernazza rave- Il Pirate delle Cinque Terre

This is more of a rave than a question. My husband and I just got back from our belated honeymoon and spent 3 nights in Vernazza. The first night we ate at a restaurant near the water which was so-so. Egy (who we rented a great room from) suggested we check out the above restaurant owned by his wifes twin brothers. We decided to have breakfast there the morning after we arrived and ended up eating there for the remainder of our stay. There is no view, but the food more than makes up for it. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious.

Gianluca (the looks) and Massimo (the brains) were an absolute delight- I am teasing about the looks and brains as they are twins.

We can't wait to go back to have another panzerotto fresh from the oven.

The twins are Sicilian and make the best pastry I've ever had! Almost makes me want to go to Sicily just to try out the food there.

Il Pirate offers three great rooms in Vernazza. Does anyone have their email by chance to book a return trip with them? I've got the phone number. It's just more cost effective to book via email.

Sorry, I misspelled Egi's name.... it should be Egi rather than Egy. Anyhow, he had three clean rooms to rent right in the heart of Vernazza. We stayed in the room with a kitchen and it was fully stocked with kitchen supplies and very spacious. Although the rooms don't have a view, it was very quiet and hard to believe we were right in the middle of the action.

I second Angela's recommendation. It is a very uphill walk to Il Pirate but definitely has the best food in town! Both twins are charming gentlemen! Be sure and try the desserts---all were wonderful.

They may check this post and send you an e-mail. Massimo said he looks on this board a couple of times a week.

While we were having dinner they were talking about their rooms which are apparently close to the restaurant. Being their restaurant is off the beaten path there wouldn't be a view, but like their food, they make up for it with quality.

I still have mornings where I fantasize about the Panzerotto. (warm out of the oven) I am probably one of the few people who am glad I don't live closer since I could not resist and would probably gain a lot of weight if I lived in Vernazza!

Ooooh, and their hot chocolate... We still talk about it, and it's been 2 years...

Those guys were a riot, thanks Angela for posting this. It's bringing back great memories!

Another rave from us! We had breakfast and dinner there. Both were delicious. It was also our first experience with "drinking chocolate". I could not finish mine, and had a sugar buzz going for hours. Yummmmm!

I agree!! We just got back from our trip. We spent 3 nights in Cinque Terre. Luca and Massimo are HILARIOUS!! WE had our BEST meal there! I had the Gnocci and pesto sauce. It was out of this world. They also have AMAZING fruit slushy drinks. If you are going to any of the five towns, this place is a MUST!!!

Add me to the list! I saw this post and just had to go check it out :) I really enjoyed having lunch there last month. The pesto sauce was totally delicious. I got a little turned around and didn't find it at first, but I'm glad I didn't just give up and have lunch wherever else.

I'm hungry just reading this thread... I will definitely seek this place out in October. Thanks!

They had good food, but Massimo talked me into the best fragola cannoli I've ever eaten. I wish I didn't let Luca talk me into trying a different desert the next day. That's been my only regret since returning a few weeks ago.

My Husband and I were just there in May and also loved it! We just stopped for lunch (we were staying in Riomaggiore so didn't get a chance to go for breakfast or dinner), but it was great. We also got the cannoli and it was fabulous! Probably the best dessert we had anywhere in Italy. And the hosts are just so friendly and nice. I hope we make it make to Italy and can go there again! :-)

Thanks for the rave! We'll be in Vernazza for three nights in September and will definitely visit this eatery. I can't wait to savor the pesto. Tips like yours and the reply posts are very helpful.

Two things:
Hot Chocolate and Bruschetta
Those two things alone would have me flying to Italy this weekend if I could!
