Vernazza place to stay

Hi, we are looking for a place to stay in Vernazza with a really nice view of the water and a balcony or terrace, preferably not too many steps to get there! thanks.

A number of years ago we stayed in a nice room run by Franca Maria. Bedroom, small kitchen, small living area looking at the water and the water front square. Very nice and not to may to many stairs.

Just my two cents.

One visit we stayed at Gianni Franzi which is on the square. We loved the open windows and the views, but we did get night noise from the restaurants and the square - we had to shut the windows.

The next time, we stayed at Monica Lercari's apartment - up 165 steps - but the balcony view was incredible….and we had no noise because we were higher up !

Thanks so much to all of you, this is great information! We are going to stay away from too many steps, going to Rome next, any suggestions on where to stay there? I've seen a lot of posts about Hotel Sonya or Aberdeen. For sure we want to take a Vatican tour, and also go to Galleria Borghese. We will have 3 days. Thanks!

TJ,

A few additional thoughts.....

If you'd like to consider staying in Monterosso rather than Vernazza, you'll have less steps to deal with. Monterosso has more "proper" hotels rather than small B&B's, and some have elevators and are within an easy walk from the station on level ground.

For lodgings in Rome, I like either Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. Both are within a fairly short walk from Termini station, which makes arrival and departure a bit easier, as well as day trips. That location is also convenient for Bus, Taxi or Metro, so very easy to get just about anywhere in Rome.

You can get close to both the Vatican and Galleria Borghese via Metro. As I recall, there are two stops close to the Vatican, but I can't remember which one I used. For the Galleria Borghese, I believe I travelled to Spagna, walked up the Spanish Steps and turned left and then walked to the gallery. My memory is a bit foggy, so I'd have to check my notes on the details. I'm sure one of the others will be able to provide suggestions.

We have stayed at Franca Maria several times, very nice. Only a couple of steps. Book early!!
Also, book directly through them, not a third party (such as booking.com). www.francamaria.com
