Vernazza in July

Hi everyone! My husband and I will be traveling by car coming from the Genoa side to Vernazza in July and have no idea where to park. Is it safe to leave anything in the trunk or must we take it all to the hotel? Are there any free/cheap close places to park the car? Also, as our hotel does not have food service, any recommendations for breakfast and dinner (local fare - not touristy) would be great!
Thanks for the help!

traci,

I'd suggest contacting the people at your accommodations for information on parking. As you may have noticed from other posts here, having a car in the C.T. is of little value, as driving in the towns is prohibited. Vernazza is probably one of the least convenient locations for parking, especially after the floods of 2011. Some options you could consider would be to park in La Spezia at the car park near the station, or at one of the lots in Monterosso, and then use the local trains to get to Vernazza. During your stay there, the car will be gathering dust and incurring parking charges.

Regarding meals, again the people at your accommodation will be able to provide information on that. Breakfast will be the main issue, as many of the lodgings in Vernazza do not provide breakfast (that's one reason I prefer to stay in Monterosso). Dinner won't be a problem as there are lots of small restaurants in town, so you can take your pick

Public Parking in Vernazza is reserved to residents only. There is a parking lot for visitors but one hour maximum. As Ken said, the best would be not to have a car at all. The next best thing, coming from Genoa, is to park in Monterosso and go by train (Vernazza is the next station, just 4 min away). Check with your hotel if they have parking accommodations of some sort in their premises. Doubtful, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
