Vernazza in February, restaurants

My teen son and I will be traveling to Italy next February. My memories of Vernazza in the mid 1990s are wonderful but I was there in summer. A 2019 Rick Steve’s podcast mentions “only the bad restaurants in Cinque Terre stay open in the winter”. Is that true? Can anyone recommend one good restaurant? We don’t need a fancy place. We don’t even need sit down if there is a good rosticceria. Open to suggestions but my son really wants to go there. We plan just one night. Thanks.

Jennifer,

February is not the best time to travel in the Cinque Terre as many hotels and restaurants shut down for the winter. That allows time for the staff to have a rest, and to get any necessary reno's or improvements done. A few of the tourist businesses may stay open with limited hours, but I have no ideas which ones. The weather may not be the best at that time of year as well.

“only the bad restaurants in Cinque Terre stay open in the winter”.

The all winter? All the 5 villages?

This would imply that the few restaurants that stay open for locals during the winter in Monterosso are worse than those catering to tourists during the season.

This is a wonderful opportunity to teach your son how to research a travel experience. After his due diligence, such as reading posts here about the desolation of the Cinque Terre in winter, he will no doubt change his mind.
