Vernazza accomodations with view: Worried about Gianni, other options?

I will be traveling to Vernazza for three nights in April. I am really looking forward to my stay and it's a special occasion so I want to make it a memorable experience. In particular, I'd really like a room with a sea view or even better one that has a terrace with a view.

We booked a room at Trattoria Gianni Franzi with a sea view for a reasonable E90 (cash). However, I'm starting to get scared off by the poor reviews I've read about this place on Tripadvisor. Has anyone stayed at GF? Is it as bad as some reviewers are making it sound?

What other options would you recommend? I would like to spend less than E120 per night. La Mala is slightly out of my range. Albergo Barbara has no rooms. Martina Callo has none of the view rooms. Maria Capellini's Charming Room is booked. Elisabetta Carro has partial availability but we'd have to change rooms.

I've tried to email Giuliano and La Marina Rooms but have gotten no responses. Are there any other options I should try?

Thank you so much for your help.

First of all, I wouldn't worry about a room with a sea view - mainly because you won't be spending that much time in your room! You can get great sea views from lots of places there. I have not heard of Gianni Franzi's room but the pictures look fine. We stayed at Caterina's (http://www.caterinarooms.it/). It was small, but very nice (no view-but, like I said, we only slept there). Google bed and breakfasts in Vernazza to get other ideas. Be sure and ask in your emails about other rooms - most of the people there know each other and will recommend.

Our group of four stayed at La Marina Rooms in September 2008. Loved it! It's a two bedroom apartment with its own stone terrace overlooking the sea and and a view of the coast towards Monterosso. The terrace opens up from one of the bedrooms and if you leave the door open at night, you can lie in bed and listen to the sea lapping up on the rocks. The walls are thick, made of stone and in fact, I think some of it is from the old wall that still meets up with the fortress. Check it out from the trail above that leads to Corniglia and let me know what you think. There are lots of stairs to climb to get to the apartment but it is worth it!

I appreciate all of your replies. I have heard back from La Torre and Camere Giuliano that they both have availability. No luck from any of the others.

I am particularly interest in La Marina Rooms. I have emailed them twice but have not received a response. Does anyone know how I can contact them?

Otherwise, I'd be very interested to hear form anyone who has actually stayed at La Torre -- the view looks breathtaking. But there is very little on the web as far as reviews. At least I have a few options... but I want to make it perfect! I've been waiting to return to Vernazza for 5 years!!!

Shaun,

You could also stay in one of the other towns. You might have a look at This B&B in Manarola.

The first few reviews on Trip Advisor should provide an idea on whether this will fit your criteria.

Happy travels!

We've been very satisfied with Francamaria at www.francamaria.com

Rooms 1 & 7 have great views of the piazza and nice sea breezes.

Just in case it does not work out for you in Vernazza and you need somewhere else to stay, you can try Mar Mar in Riomaggiore. They were very helpful. You can just email them to ask what would be available on the dates you are going there, and they email you a list with an honest description of each room that they have available, and what kind of view each place has. Just if you need another option!
