Verizon Global Phone

Has anyone used a Verizon Global phone in Italy? Anything I should know?

My husband used one in London/ Belgium and said he received incorrect info (from Verizon) about how to use it. Unfortunately he does not remember what he did to use it correctly.

Activating it seems easy enough . . . it's using it there I'm wondering about. Using country codes etc.

We recently used my blackberry storm in Italy. We did have a few issues dialing out to Italian #s as it seemed that there was a difference in dialing cell #s vs. land lines. I thought I'd be facing a huge bill when we got home from all my screwed up calls but thankfully not. I did make sure to turn off all internet services before we left home, so we weren't charged for data, and we paid the $4.99 monthly fee to save on the minute expenses. It was nice to simply bring along my every day phone vs. renting one or getting on abroad, and also to have the same # for those at home to contact you if need be.

Just what I wanted to know. Thanks!

Another thing . . . a friend might be in Rome at the same time I am. She will also have her cell phone. Do I need to dial the US code to reach her? I assume the phone doesn't know where it is, so I would dial as if she were in the US.

FYI I never once used the "+" sign (and while I did have troubles calling at first, I did eventually get through!).

All US #'s, from your US phone, would be simply 1-area code- phone number, no matter where they are.
