First time traveler to Italy. I am trying to decide if we are going to buy the Venizia Unica pass for Venice, if so for how many days. We will arrive by air at VCE and the plan is to take the vaporetto from there to our stop near our apartment. Can we buy this pass at the airport and use it from there? In our party we will be two adults, and two teenagers eligible for the Rolling Venice Card. Even if we buy that card, it is only going to save us 2 Euros each kid off the two day pass, as it is 28 Euros each, but I guess that is better than nothing. We will have two full days and a half day (the arrival day) in Venice.
Besides the trip from the airport, I would like to take a trip on the vaporetto on the grand canal one day, and on the next day take it to go to Murano, Burano and Torcello. Neither of those are written in stone, but if we do those activities it would make sense to buy the two day pass.
Another question. Our apartment is close to the Rialto stop. To get to the Venizia St Lucia train station, is the vaporetto the best mode of transport to get there, or is walking? We are going to leave Venice pretty early in the morning, around 8am to get to Florence. By then our two day pass would be invalid, is it worth it to buy a three day pass if we do all of these vaporetto rides including that last trip to the train station? Thanks for your help in advance.
From the airport, you would take the Alliguna boat into Venice. Cost is €14. Other option is the bus, € 6 to Pizzale Roma then the vaporetto to Rialto.
There's a kiosk at the airport. When I was there 2 years ago, it was just as you enter the terminal from the tarmac, on the left side, before the baggage carousels. You can get the cards there and buy the Alilaguna tickets also.
The 2-day pass is 48 hours from first use on the vaporetto. You may not need the vaporetto on your first day. Be sure to take the Orange Line Alilaguna, which stops at Rialto. The Rolling Venice Card is 3 days (72 hours), so the kids are okay - if I understand correctly that you have 3 nights in Venice. Do get the passes. One of the delights of Venice is riding the vaporetto from end to end after dark and in the early morning mists. It can also be convenient for 1-2 stops to cross the Grand Canal.
Because of the bridges, it's easier to take the vaporetto than to walk with luggage.
Thank you Geri and Chani for the information. Much appreciated!
