VeniceFlorenceRome: Siena???

We're booked for the 10 day V-F-R and I'm wondering about the possibility of using one of our "free" afternoons in Florence to go to Siena. We're not huge art buffs and don't mind striking out on our own. Would appreciate your thoughts, especially from those having gone on this tour.

Siena is close and a quick trip by train or bus from Florence. It would be a nice change of pace from the other places you've mentioned if you want to get away for an afternoon.

Siena is an easy 70 minute bus ride from Florence. Express buses run regularly throughout the day and into the evening, except on Sundays. Looks like the afternoon of either day 5 or 6 would allow plenty of time for a visit. Sometime during the first couple of days in Venice, ask your guide to help you coordinate the best day and itinerary. My guess is that many people on the V-F-R tour day trip to Siena, and your guide will have lots of great suggestions.
