Veniceconnected.com vs. venicelink.com

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 72 hour passes sold by these two websites? I know venicelink offers a private island tour with their pass, but are passes for different companies?

The passes are for different companies and different transport. venicelink.com is run by the folks that operate the Alilaguna shuttle boats. They run to some spots in the lagoon, but their main routes are to/from the airport. With that pass you could ride the alilaguna boats. the routes are at www.alilaguna.it. The veniceconnected.com site is affiliated with ACTV, the folks that run the vaporetto in Venice and the lagoon. the tranport pass from them will be valid on the vaporetto and the ACTV bus system, but not on Alilaguna. The vaporetto pass from veniceconnected would be my choice.

Not exactly. You can book airport transfers on Venice Connected through Alilaguna as well as ACTV passes to ride the Vaporettas. The ACTV tickets are for 24, 36, 48 and 72 hours of unlimited riding; the Alilaguna airport passes can be bought for round trip or one-way. I just did so this afternoon. You can also book museum passes, toilet passes (!) and a wifi access pass through this site. All the bookings come with a discount over buying after you arrive. For example, the Alilaguna Pass from my hotel to the airport was 11 euros. It would have been 14 had I waited. The 5 euro toilet pass was for 10 toilet tickets over a week's time. I will admit that their site is a little cumbersome, but once I learned to click around before making a decision, I found all the answers to my questions. But it is hard to imagine I have actually bought tickets to the facilities in Venice!

So, I neglected to conclude earlier, you can buy whatever is available through the city-run Venice Connected, which earlier was called the Venice Card and was easier to order before it changed its name last year.

Just to clarify my answer a bit more... Yes you can by an Alilaguna airport shuttle ticket on veniceconnected but if you purchase a 72 hour public transport pass you get a 72 hour pass for unlimited rides on ACTV busses and the vaporetto in Venice and the lagoon. If you purchase a 72 hour tranport pass on veniceconnected you get unlimited rides on Alilaguna Linea Blu, Linea Rosso and Linea Arrancio plus a Murano - Burano tour and entrance to Palazzo Grassi. Not the same animal at all. This pass is fairly new
